
On Friday, President Donald Trump urged Microsoft to dismiss Lisa Monaco, who served as the deputy attorney general during the Biden administration. The request was shared on Trump’s Truth Social account, which has an impressive following of 10 million users. The indictment of former FBI Director James Comey comes just days after Trump called for his prosecution.
“She is a menace to U.S. National Security, especially given the major contracts that Microsoft has with the United States Government,” Trump wrote in the post. “As a result of Monaco’s multiple violations, the U.S. Government has recently rescinded her Security Clearances, cut off her access to National Security Intelligence, and barred her from entering all Federal Properties.” Microsoft chose not to issue a statement.
Various segments of the U.S. government make use of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and productivity software. Earlier this month, Microsoft agreed to deliver $3.1 billion in savings over the span of one year on cloud services intended for agency use. On Friday, Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo shared a post about the collaboration between Monaco and Microsoft. The appointment took place in July, as noted on Monaco’s LinkedIn profile. The post featured a hyperlink directing readers to an article from July that was published on the University of Chicago law school’s website.
On Thursday, Microsoft revealed its choice to end cloud-based storage and artificial intelligence subscriptions for a portion of the Israeli military, after an investigation into claims that the division had created a system for monitoring Palestinians’ phone calls. On Monday, Trump is set to hold talks with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel. This month, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella attended a dinner with other technology executives at the White House.
