S&P Futures Opening Update as on 12 May 2017

US PRE MARKET

The S&P 500 Futures are trading at 2,386.50 with a loss of -0.19% percent. Other U.S. stock futures are lower in pre-market trading for Friday, May 12. The Dow Futures are trading at 20,843.50 with a loss of -0.13%  percent . The Nasdaq Futures are trading at 5,666.88 with a loss of -0.07% percent.

FRIDAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

U.S. government debt prices climbed higher on Friday morning as investors digested several pieces of data.

Consumer prices rebounded moderately in April, as energy prices climbed back up after a sharp decline in March.

The Labor Department said consumer prices rose 0.2 percent after a 0.3 percent drop in March, which was the biggest fall in more than two years. Energy prices rose 1.1 percent after tumbling 3.2 percent the previous month.

 Meanwhile, the Commerce Department reported retail sales increased 0.4 percent in April from March. Sales had ticked up just 0.1 percent in March and fell in February.
The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note was lower at 2.361 percent, while the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond was also lower at 3.0008 percent. Yields move inversely to prices.

U.S. market indexes were mixed on Thursday. For the day the S&P 500 closed at 2,394.44 with 0.00% percent. The Dow Jones Industrial closed at 20,919.42 with 0.00% percent. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,115.96  with a loss of  –0.22% percent.

Other leading market index closes included the small-cap Russell 2000 Index closed at 1,390.20 with a loss -0.67% percent; the S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 845.02 with 0.00% percent; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index closed at 1,727.54 with 0.00% percent; the S&P 100 Index closed at 1,057.24 with  –0.00% percent; the Russell 3000 Index closed at 1,418.49  with a loss of –0.28% percent; the Russell 1000 Index closed at 1,326.93  with a loss of –0.25% percent; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index closed at 20,919.42 with  0.00% percent.

WORLD MARKETS

In overnight trading in the Eastern Hemisphere, Japan’s Nikkei 225 are trading at 19,883.90  with a loss of –0.39% percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng are trading at 25,156.34 for up +0.12% percent. China’s Shanghai Composite are trading at 3,083.51 for up with +0.72% percent. India’s S&P BSE Sensex closed at 30,188.15  with a loss of –0.21% percent. In Europe, the FTSE 100 are trading at 7,407.15 for up with +0.28% percent. Germany’s DAX are trading at 12,731.29 for up with +0.16% percent. France’s CAC 40 are trading at 5,390.24 with a loss of +0.13% percent. The Stoxx Europe 600 are trading at 394.69 for up with  +0.08% percent.
