S&P Futures Opening Update as on 22 May 2017


The S&P 500 Futures are trading at 2,383.00 for up with +0.06% percent. Other U.S. stock futures are higher in pre-market trading for Monday, May 22. The Dow Futures are trading at 20,816.50 for up with +0.14% percent . The Nasdaq Futures are trading at 5,659.12 for up with  +0.09% percent.


European markets have moved slightly lower ahead of this evening’s meeting of euro area finance chiefs to discuss the disbursement of further aid and possible debt relief for Athens, amid renewed gains for the single currency.

The economic situation in the euro area and post-programme surveillance for Spain were also expected to be on the table.

As of 1145 BST the benchmark Stoxx 600 was 0.17% lower to 390.84, with the Dax giving back 0.50% to 12,575.22 and the Cac-40 off by 0.05% to 5,321.77.

Milan’s FTSE Mibtel was moving 1.13% lower to 21,324.11.

“Equity indices are mixed around the half-way mark. The UK’s FTSE outperforms thanks to a stronger oil price ahead of the OPEC Thursday meeting and GBP weakness vs USD and EUR. Germany’s DAX suffers from fresh EUR strength vs USD while Dow futures hover around breakeven, holding their Friday gains as they appear to give Trump another benefit of the doubt and maintain confidence in US growth,” said Mike van Dulken, head of research at Accendo Markets.


U.S. market indexes were higher on Friday. For the day the S&P 500 closed at 2,381.73 for up with + 0.68% percent. The Dow Jones Industrial closed at 20,804.84 for up with 0.69% percent. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,083.70 for up with 0.47% percent.

Other leading market index closes included the small-cap Russell 2000 Index closed at 1,367.33 for up  with +0.46% percent; the S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 828.12 for up with 0.47% percent; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index closed at 1,712.08 for up with 1.01% percent; the S&P 100 Index closed at 1,050.79 for up with 0.61% percent; the Russell 3000 Index closed at 1,409.90 for up with +0.68% percent; the Russell 1000 Index closed at 1,320.02  for up with  +0.70% percent; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index closed at 20,804.84  for up with 0.69% percent.


In overnight trading in the Eastern Hemisphere, Japan’s Nikkei 225 are trading at 19,678.28 for up  with  +0.45% percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng are trading at 25,391.34 for up +0.86% percent. China’s Shanghai Composite are trading at 3,075.68 with a loss of  –0.48% percent. India’s S&P BSE Sensex closed at 30,570.97 for up with +0.35% percent. In Europe, the FTSE 100 are trading at 7,504.85 for up with +0.46% percent. Germany’s DAX are trading at 12,606.38 with a loss of –0.26% percent. France’s CAC 40 are trading at 5,332.84 for up with  +0.16% percent. The Stoxx Europe 600 are trading at 391.72 for up with  +0.05% percent.
