S&P Futures Opening Update as on 23 May 2017

US PRE MARKET

The S&P 500 Futures are trading at 2,395.75 for up with +0.13% percent. Other U.S. stock futures are higher in pre-market trading for Tuesday, May 23. The Dow Futures are trading at 20,919.50 for up with +0.20% percent . The Nasdaq Futures are trading at 5,714.62 for up with +0.23% percent.

TUESDAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a higher open on Tuesday, as investors geared up for more news out of Donald Trump’s first overseas trip as president, while keeping an eye on the moves in oil.

As part of his first foreign trip abroad, President Trump is currently in the Middle East where he is expected to help revive the stalled peace process between Israel and Palestine.

After Trump touched down in Israel on Monday he said there was a “rare opportunity” now to bring security, stability and peace to the Middle East region and its citizens.

On Tuesday, the president traveled to Bethlehem to meet the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. After traveling to parts of the Middle East, the U.S. president will then go on to visit places in Europe.

MONDAY’S ACTIVITY

U.S. market indexes were higher on Monday. For the day the S&P 500 closed at 2,394.02 for up with + 0.52% percent. The Dow Jones Industrial closed at 20,894.83 for up with +0.43% percent. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,133.62 for up with +0.82% percent.

Other leading market index closes included the small-cap Russell 2000 Index closed at 1,377.14 for up with +0.72% percent; the S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 834.31 with 0.00% percent; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index closed at 1,720.61 with 0.00% percent; the S&P 100 Index closed at 1,055.52  with 0.00% percent; the Russell 3000 Index closed at 1,417.54 for up with +0.54% percent; the Russell 1000 Index closed at 1,326.99 for up with +0.53% percent; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index closed at 20,894.83  with 0.00% percent.

WORLD MARKETS

In overnight trading in the Eastern Hemisphere, Japan’s Nikkei 225 are trading at 19,613.28  with a loss of +0.33% percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng are trading at 25,403.15 for up with +0.05% percent. China’s Shanghai Composite are trading at 3,061.95 with a loss of –0.45% percent. India’s S&P BSE Sensex closed at 30,365.25  with a loss of –0.67% percent. In Europe, the FTSE 100 are trading at 7,513.33 for up with +0.23% percent. Germany’s DAX are trading at 12,676.48 for up with  0.45% percent. France’s CAC 40 are trading at 5,360.16 for up with +0.70% percent. The Stoxx Europe 600 are trading at 392.25 for up with +0.28% percent.
