US PRE MARKET

The S&P 500 Futures are trading at 2,431.88 with a loss of -0.24% percent or –1.24% point. Other U.S. stock futures are higher in pre-market trading for Friday, August 18. The Dow Futures are trading at 21,742.00 for up with  +0.04% percent or +9.00 point. The Nasdaq Futures are trading at 5,818.25 for up with  +0.31% percent or +18.00 point.

FRIDAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

U.S. government debt prices rose on Friday, as investors turned their attention to turbulence seen in U.S. politics and the terror attack seen in Europe.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.19 percent at 8:01 a.m. ET, while the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond was lower at 2.779 percent. Bond yields move inversely to prices.

In Spain, a manhunt is currently underway as police try to locate the driver of a van who plowed into crowds in one of Barcelona’s tourist hotspot areas, which left at least 13 people dead and over 100 injured.

 The perpetrator was seen escaping on foot after driving into pedestrians on Las Ramblas in the late afternoon on Thursday; an incident which police suspect was one of a number of planned attacks

The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,221.91  with a loss of –1.94% percent or –123.19 point.

Other leading market index closes included the small-cap Russell 2000 Index closed at 1,358.94 with a loss of -1.78% percent or -24.59 point; the S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 819.83  with a loss of –1.87% percent or –15.66 point; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index closed at 1,696.14  with a loss of  –1.72% percent or –29.69 point; the S&P 100 Index closed at 1,076.11  with a loss of  –1.51% percent or  –16.47 point; the Russell 3000 Index closed at 1,434.04  with a loss of –1.56% percent or –22.72 point; the Russell 1000 Index closed at 1,345.14  with a loss of  –1.54% percent or –21.07 point; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index closed at 21,750.73 with a loss of –1.24% percent or  –274.14 point.
