S&P Futures Opening Update as on 16 January 2018

US PRE MARKET

The S&P 500 Futures are trading at 2,801.25 for up with +0.45% percent or +12.50 point. Other U.S. stock futures are higher in pre-market trading for Tuesday, January 16. The Dow Futures are trading at 26,045.00 for up with +0.95% percent or +244.00 point. The Nasdaq Futures are trading at 6,805.25 for up with +0.45% percent or +30.25 point.

TUESDAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

The S&P 500 also reached a record high, climbing 0.7 percent to 2,786.24 with energy and consumer discretionary as the best-performing sectors. Energy stocks got a boost from rising oil prices.

 The index is also enjoying its best 10-day start to a year since 2003. In that time period, the S&P 500 is up 4.2 percent. It gained 5.9 percent during the first 10 days of 2003.

“There is optimism in the market,” but there is also uncertainty about this rally, said Cooper Abbott, chairman of Carillon Tower Advisers. That level of uncertainty can be good for the market because it “dampens expectations.”

MONDAY’S ACTIVITY

U.S. market were higher on Monday. For the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 25,803.19 for up  with  +0.89% percent or +228.46 point. The S&P 500 closed at 2,786.24  for up with +0.67% percent or  +18.68 point. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 7,261.06  for up with +0.68% percent or  +49.28 point.

Other leading market index closes included the small-cap Russell 2000 Index closed at 1,591.97  for up with  +0.33% percent or  +5.18 point; the S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 969.17  for up with +0.37%  percent or +3.56 point; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index closed at 1,965.97  for up with +0.27% percent or +5.29 point; the S&P 100 Index closed at 1,234.55  for up with +0.71% percent or  +8.73 point; the Russell 3000 Index closed at 1,647.37 for up  with  +0.61% percent or +9.99 point; the Russell 1000 Index closed at 1,542.77 for up  with  +0.63% percent or +9.71  point; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index closed at 25,803.19  for up  with +0.89% percent or +228.460 point.

WORLD MARKETS

In overnight trading in the Eastern Hemisphere,  Japan’s Nikkei 225 are trading at 23,951.81 for up with +0.26% percent or +236.93 point. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng are trading at 31,835.15 for up with +1.58% percent or +496.28 point. China’s Shanghai Composite are trading at 3,436.59  for up with +0.77% percent or +26.11 point. India’s BSE Sensex are trading at 34,777.84 with a loss of -0.19% percent or -65.67 point at 12:15 PM.The FTSE 100 are trading at 7,789.15 for up with  +0.26% percent or  +20.01 point. Germany’s DAX are trading at 13,274.68 for up with  +0.56% percent or  +74.17 point. France’s CAC 40 are trading at 5,526.64  for up with +0.31% percent or +16.96 point.
