U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday unveiled comprehensive proposals aimed at tightening immigration regulations, which encompass a halt on migration from “Third World Countries” and the termination of all federal benefits and subsidies for “noncitizens” residing in the country. In a series of posts on Truth Social late Thursday night, Trump stated he would “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover,” without providing a clear definition of what constitutes a “third world” country. The term is generally applied to nations characterized by elevated poverty levels and economic volatility. The president stated his intention to end “millions” of admissions established by his predecessor, Joe Biden, and to eliminate “anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country.”

Trump stated his intention to terminate all federal benefits and subsidies for noncitizens, “denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility,” and deport any foreign national he characterized as a “public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.” His remarks followed the shooting of two National Guard members near the White House on Wednesday, resulting in the death of one from her injuries the subsequent day. Investigators indicated that the assault was executed by an Afghan national.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Joseph Edlow, the director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, stated in a post on X that the agency would conduct a review of all Green Card holders from a “country of concern.” The agency has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of all immigration requests pertaining to Afghan nationals.

Since his return to the White House earlier this year, Trump has actively advanced a robust immigration agenda. In June, a comprehensive travel ban was announced, affecting immigrants from 19 nations, Afghanistan included.
