S&P futures experienced a modest increase on Thursday as oil prices fell, with traders anticipating forthcoming inflation data. Wall Street assessed a multitude of recent earnings reports. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 102 points, representing a 0.2% rise. S&P 500 futures increased by 0.2%, whereas Nasdaq-100 futures rose by 0.1%. Brent crude futures declined by 2%, trading at $87.17 per barrel, whereas West Texas Intermediate futures fell by 2.2%, reaching $81.41 per barrel. The moves come as traders assessed declining oil demand amid the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict.

On Thursday, Wall Street will have the opportunity to reassess U.S. inflation with the release of the July producer price index, which measures the costs incurred by wholesalers for raw goods and materials, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones anticipate a rise of 0.2% compared to the previous month. The PPI report is released a day subsequent to a consumer price index reading that met expectations. The Consumer Price Index for July experienced a month-over-month increase of 0.1%, aligning with market expectations. The tame report provided a lift to the S&P 500, resulting in the benchmark closing higher for the first time in three sessions.

The report resulted in traders reducing their expectations for a rate hike in September. “Still, the odds favor a rate increase in either October or December, after monetary policy officials take time to gauge the temperature on both sides of the central bank’s mandate,” said José Torres. Across the Atlantic, Europe’s Stoxx 600 registered an increase of 0.2%. In Asia, market performance concluded on a mixed note. Kospi rose 3.6% to enter a bull market. Mainland China’s CSI 300 experienced a decrease of 0.57%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 experienced an increase of 1.16%.

Australia’s benchmark S&P/ASX 200 experienced a decline of 0.23%. Cisco Systems, Cerebras, and Coherent all experienced declines in premarket trading following overnight earnings updates. Cerebras experienced a decline of 17.4% prior to the market opening, whereas Cisco saw a decrease of 5.9%. Coherent experienced a decline of 5.1%.
